The Doering Hotel was built in 1928 and helped create the Temple skyline, in addition to the two other predominant structures of the time: the Hotel Kyle and the Professional Building.

The hotel stands next to the Arcadia Theater, which entertained guests of the hotel, on the corner of Central Avenue and 4th Street. The Doering was later renamed the Hawn Hotel, and in early 2006, the City of Temple purchased it for just over $300,000.

The City of Temple is actively pursuing options for the building, with the possibility of a boutique hotel and restaurant with retail facilities.
