Annual Bloomin’ Temple Festival Appeals to Wide Audience
The Bloomin’ Temple Festival covers downtown in food vendors, arts and crafts merchants, and a variety of entertainment for a full weekend in April every year, but organizers hope a few changes will broaden the festival’s appeal to Temple residents and surrounding communities.
As always, the music lineup offers a wide array of genres to make sure there is something for everyone. Friday is traditionally “rock night” and will be headlined by The Fabulous Thunderbirds and supported by local favorite David Zychek and emerging Killeen rock band, 7 Years Today. Saturday brings country music downtown with another local act, Brian Gowan, followed by Texas Country crooner Brandon Rhyder. The night will culminate with the legendary Charlie Daniels Band.
One exciting change to the festival will be the incorporation of Tejano acts into Saturday night’s lineup. Bands will included Grammy Winner Elida Reyna, For the past two years, these performers have drawn solid Sunday turnouts. This has prompted organizers to open a second stage on Saturday night, when even more people can attend and enjoy a variety of music. Vendors are sure to appreciate the anticipated increase in attendance on Saturday evening as well.
Admission will be $5 for Friday and $5 for Saturday, with children 12 and under admitted free.
As a new addition to the festival, Sunday will be “Fort Hood Appreciation Day” and admission will be absolutely free. Several special performances are being lined up for Sunday afternoon to honor and celebrate Temple’s military neighbors. Organizers hope this will bring even more residents and families from across Central Texas out to the festival on Sunday.
Mayor Bill Jones says, “That’s one of the reasons Bloomin’ Temple began, to be an event the whole family could enjoy.”
Volunteer to sell armbands or drinks for a few hours during the festival and you’ll receive a T-shirt that allows free entry into the festival all weekend. Contact Bonnie Hunt at (254) 778-4755 or email email@example.com about volunteering.
